AdvoCard is running a free online workshop to introduce our new Family Advocacy Service for families bereaved by a death in prison custody in Scotland. The workshop is open to both professionals and families, and is designed to help attendees understand how the service works and how families can access support.

What the workshop covers
- An introduction to AdvoCard’s Family Advocacy Service, including who it’s for and how to make a referral
- An explanation of the four statutory processes that follow a death in prison custody, and the part each one plays:
- DIPLAR – the Death in Prisons Learning, Audit and Review process
- COPFS/CDU – the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service’s Custody Death Unit investigation
- NHS SAER – the Significant Adverse Event Review carried out by NHS
- FAI – the Fatal Accident Inquiry
- How independent advocacy supports families through each of these processes
- How to get in touch with the service once referrals open
The workshop is for both professionals and families. This includes bereaved families themselves, as well as those working in health, justice, and community settings who support families through these processes.
