Everyone who uses mental health services has rights and it is important that they know about them and understand them.
If you are already in contact with AdvoCard, your advocacy worker will ensure that you are informed about your rights, but it is important that information about people’s rights, at different points of their contact with mental health services, is available to everyone.
The Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland has published a short guide to these rights called “Rights in Mind – a pathway to patients’ rights in mental health services”
It provides lots of useful information about rights and the legislation behind them for people who use services, their friends and relatives and the staff who work with them.
If you are someone who uses mental health services and believe that your rights are not being respected and protected, independent advocacy may be able to help you.
