If you need help with addiction it can feel like you don’t have any rights at all and that you have to take what you are given. This is not true, you have the same rights as everyone else, but knowing what those rights are and what to do with them is still not easy.

AdvoCard’s S.TR.O.N.G project provides advocacy which aims to help you:

  • Know what help you have a right to
  • Get the help you want
  • Get help in a way that works for you

If you are interested in, or unsure about accessing addiction services, we can talk you through what your rights are and what options you have. We are independent, so we aren’t going to tell you want to do or what help you should want. All conversations are confidential, and we will never judge you.

Once you know what your rights are, we can talk about what help you might want, or not want, from various services.

Strong Statement

If you would like support asking for help, then we can assist you write a statement which tells services who you are and what you need. We keep a copy of this statement, so whenever you want to talk to someone new, you can ask us to send a statement out to them.

If you would prefer to fill out a statement on your own, you can download or print the form below. You can see some information about your rights in treatment here.

If you do not have access to a printer, but would like a statement, please contact Michael here and we will send one to you, or to a safe address you can access, in the post.

Getting in touch

Whether you decide you want to write out a statement or not, an advocacy worker can also help you with services by attending meetings with you, writing letters on your behalf or otherwise helping you get your views across.

If this sounds useful to you, or you want to refer someone else to us, please fill out this form and include STRONG in the referral.
